Lightsticks are glow sticks that represent a specific K-pop group and are used by fans to show their support and so each group has their own unique design that represents them. And after debuting the creative department of the entertainment company would release the design and fans would be hyped up that this was going to represent their fandom!
In some cases before the lightstick designs are even released,
fans get creative themselves and design their own in hopes that the lightsticks in the future may look like the one they designed. And in some cases there have been instances where companies release designs saying it is the official design, but then fans come together and say we do not like it which then leads the company to retract the design and start again.
This whole concept of the kpop world has thus led to the creation of “Glow up or Shut Up” a kpop inspired lightstick redesign game infused with trivia that gets the players hyped while playing the role of designers in this industry. Compared to other peers’ games in this project, this game that I have designed is definitely catered towards a more specific group — people who actively listen to kpop and know about this entertainment industry. Even though this is something new to some people, kpop is a growing genre of music and I believe that this game will soon be able to cater to an even greater audience one day.
I want the players who are playing to be able to explore their creative side and be able to
see how they would envision a certain lightstick design!
