Redesigning the book cover Dionysos Speed by Rainer J, Hanshe. The book talked about topics and themes in relation to how the world and even cosmos of technology takes over our everyday lives and identities.

Originally when thinking about the design of the cover the initial thought was to have a Dionysos statue to allude to the title and then have the face be covered with a crack mirror to represent our lost identity. However while executing the vision it did not turn out how I envisioned it and it felt cluttered and that too much was going on. And so next I thought about just the idea of the cosmos, and how fragile it can be when our world is shaken by technology.

One page that really stood out to me when reading the excerpt was the one where it was talking about the cosmos and how the roll of a dice is slowly breaking it apart and how the words on that page were slowly falling apart reflect that as well. I first started with liquifying the color of a cloud image that I generated from adobe photoshop to create that eerie feeling. The reason I chose the image of the cloud was first the idea with the cosmos that is stated in the book and second clouds are usually associated with a feeling of tranquility and peace but I took that image and distorted it.

This is intertwined with the fact that it may seem like technology brings us a sense of peace being able to have a sense of connectivity with the world but if you look closely there are cracks within and it may not be all at peace as you may think — where slowly the world is falling apart. The cover may be simple but it conveys the feelings that I wanted the viewer to get out of the book.
